Bible Toolbar 3.5.0

June 25th, 2009

Bible Toolbar has been updated for compatibility with Firefox 3.5 and has been made public by a Mozilla Add-ons editor. The icons for launching it have also been given a newer, more modern look.

Looking at the original code makes one want to spend some time updating it for easier addition of features and such. Maybe a complete re-write is in order!

Out of the sandbox

February 1st, 2009

While no new functionality has been added to the Bible Toolbar, the version number has increased. After taking Sid Kalra’s suggestions on wrapping “loose” Javascript variables, it has been re-packaged / re-nominated and the Mozilla Addon reviewers promoted it out of the sandbox. :-)

Status on Bible Toolbar nomination

July 23rd, 2008

Here’s an email received regarding Bible Toolbar’s public nomination status:

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 8:53 PM

Your nominated add-on, Bible Toolbar, has been reviewed by a Mozilla Add-ons editor who decided to retain your add-on in the sandbox.

Review Information:

Comments: In order to prevent conflicts with other addons that may be installed by users, you need to wrap your “loose” variables and functions within a JavaScript object. You can see an example of how to do this @ http://blogger.ziesemer.com/2007/10/respecting-javascript-global-namespace.html.

Thanks.

While the reason for rejecting Bible Toolbar’s public nomination doesn’t seem like a big deal, especially seeing how the Webdeveloper extension (which is extremely popular) had over 439 instances of this issue (according to the linked article in the email), it would be good to follow best practices in the Javascript community.

The linked article from the email has the information needed to do the proper variable cleanup in Bible Toolbar. If anyone would like to tackle this project and get things moving along, please use the contact form or leave a comment and let it be made known. :-)

On the road to nomination

July 3rd, 2008

Bible Toolbar 3.0.3 has been uploaded to bibletoolbar.net as well as addons.mozilla.org.

Changelog:

  • Updated toolbar icon
  • Changed toolbarbutton label to display “Bible Toolbar” instead of “BT”
  • Removed “centerscreen” option when opening options.xul

It needs to be tested a litte further to be sure of it’s bug-free status. Then it will be nominated for it’s “public-ness”. Hopefully that will go well. Please report any issues you may see at the contact page. :-)
